Glory Ann Perry

Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, Glory Ann had an exciting and varied life.  She came to California to attend school on a scholarship at Mount St. Mary’s College in Los Angeles.  Upon graduation, she taught school in Los Angeles.  During this time, she traveled extensively to Europe and Mexico during summer vacations and eventually was offered a position at the Escuela Americana in Mexico City.  She lived, taught, and studied in Mexico for three years.

After returning home, she graduated from Caroline Leonetti School of Modeling in Hollywood.  She married and raised three children, Katherine, Michael, and Craig, in Orange County, California.

As the children became more independent, Glory Ann enrolled in Pepperdine College in Orange County and graduated with a Master’s degree in education.  She accepted a teaching position in junior high with the Saddleback Unified School District in Orange County, teaching music, English, history, and social studies.  During this time, she was extremely active in school and community affairs.  She served as Public Relations Chairperson for the California Teachers Association (CTA) and as Vice President of the Saddleback Valley Educators Association (SVEA).  She was president of her homeowner’s association.

In 1983, Glory Ann married her beloved husband, Dr. Leland R. Perry, and moved to Bear Valley Springs in Tehachapi, California.  Together they opened a dental practice in Bakersfield and eventually a subsidiary in Tehachapi.  Glory Ann worked as office manager of the dental practice with her husband until his retirement in 1994.  Dr. Perry’s two daughters, Linnea and Michelle, completed their family unit.

Glory Ann completed her career by accepting a position with the Kern County Superintendent of Schools to teach high risk teenagers at East Kern Community School in Mojave and stayed in this position until she retired in the year 2000.  She took great pride in helping many of these students graduate high school.

In retirement, Glory Ann became active in St. Malachy’s Catholic Church, as RCIA Facilitator, Extraordinary Minister of Communion, Lector, and singer in the choir.  She was a member of the Catholic Daughters, Women’s Fellowship, and three other Bible “Renew” groups.

In 2008, she was diagnosed with recurring breast cancer and began her valiant fight against this dreaded disease until her death at age 78.  Glory Ann’s gregariousness and outgoing personality endeared her to people of all ages.  She was a wonderful, beloved mother, wife, stepmother, sister, and friend.  Her sense of humor, her service to her church, her devotion to her husband, family, and friends endeared her to all she ever met.  Her courage and hospitality will be sorely missed.  The sadness of her dying cannot diminish the joy of her living.

Glory Ann is survived by her husband, Leland; children, Kathi Nardozza, Michael and Sharon Nardozza, Craig and Jennifer Nardozza, Shelly and Mike Nunez, and Linnea Perry; grandchildren, Jilian, Leland, Austin, and Ian Nunez, Jeremy, Jason, Justin, Cassondra and Alisa Nardozza; and five great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her grandson, Joshua Nardozza.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests remembrances in Glory’s name to St. Malachy’s “Leap of Faith” foundation: 407 West “E” Street, Tehachapi, California, 93561 (661) 822-3060; the Comprehensive Blood and Cancer Center: 6501 Truxtun Avenue, Bakersfield, California, 93309 (661) 822-2206; or Covenant House (shelter for homeless boys and girls).

Viewing is scheduled for Friday, July 5, 2013, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Wood Family Funeral Service in Tehachapi.  A Vigil Service and recitation of the Rosary will follow at 6:00 p.m. at St. Malachy’s Catholic Church.  The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Saturday, July 6, 2013, at 10:00 a.m.  Immediately following the Mass, a reception and celebration of Glory Ann’s life will be held in St. Malachy’s McMullan Hall.  Wood Family Funeral Service is handling the arrangements.
